Few novelty apps hold an audience long enough to reach 10M+ installs, and Barber Chop has managed it on a single trick: it makes a phone sound and feel like a working set of hair clippers. Tap a tool and the speaker produces the buzz while the vibration motor supplies the rumble, with a razor, a trimmer and a dryer sitting alongside the main clipper.
The obvious use is a joke played on someone dozing on the sofa. The less obvious one, and the reason parents keep it installed, is rehearsal: a child who panics in the barber's chair can hear the noise at home first, on a device that cannot cut anything. Barbers themselves sometimes use it as a warm-up sound with nervous customers.
Judge it for what it is. There is no styling advice, no appointment booking, and nothing that belongs to the Beauty category beyond the theme, which is most of the story behind a 3.75 average from people who expected a grooming tool. Advertising also interrupts an app that most people open for ten seconds at a time.
