Editor's Review

Running a club through a group chat falls apart at roughly the moment announcements scroll out of sight and nobody can remember when practice moved. BAND, built by NAVER, exists for that problem. Each group gets a private space with a message board, a shared calendar, chat rooms, photo albums, polls and a member list, so the information that matters sits somewhere permanent instead of buried in a conversation.

The typical users are sports teams, school classes, church groups, hobby clubs, alumni networks and extended families, which explains why the feature set leans towards organising people rather than broadcasting to them. Leaders can pin notices, restrict who posts, run attendance checks and send alerts that stand apart from ordinary chat. Groups can be invitation-only, findable by search, or fully open, and a single account holds many groups with separate notification settings for each.

A 4.79 average is unusually high for a social app, and the reason is fairly plain: BAND does one thing group chats do badly, and it does it without an algorithmic feed or public follower counts. Nobody is performing for strangers here.

The catch is coordination. A group tool only helps if the whole group installs it, and persuading a dozen people to leave the messaging app they already use is the genuine barrier. The interface also carries a lot of features at once, which can feel dense on a first opening.

Features

  • Private groups with a message board that keeps posts in order

  • Shared calendar with event reminders

  • Group and one-to-one chat rooms

  • Photo and video albums for each group

  • Polls, sign-up sheets and attendance checks

  • Pinned notices and posting permissions for leaders

  • Per-group notification settings across many memberships

Pros

  • Announcements stay findable instead of scrolling away

  • Calendar, files and photographs live with the group that created them

  • No public feed, follower count or algorithmic ranking

  • Leaders get real moderation and permission controls

  • One account handles many unrelated groups cleanly

Cons

  • It only works if the whole group agrees to install it

  • The volume of features makes the first session feel crowded
