Every December a small industry of Santa apps appears, and Elf Cam is one of the tidier ideas in it. Point the camera at a corner of the room and an animated elf is composited into the live view, moving about and reacting as though caught on film. The result is a short clip a parent can record and replay as evidence that one of Santa's scouts dropped in overnight.
The appeal is narrow and entirely age-dependent. It lands with children young enough to accept the illusion, and the compositing holds up well enough at that age provided the room is bright and the floor gives the camera something to track. Older siblings will spot the trick in about four seconds.
The 3.78 average reads like a seasonal app's usual scorecard: delight from families who captured a clean clip, frustration from those whose phone tracked the scene badly or who found less content than they had expected. Treat it as a prop for one evening, not an app that earns a permanent place on the phone.
