Editor's Review

Three stars is a blunt verdict for a service backed by one of the largest factual libraries on television, and the split between content and software explains most of it. The catalogue is deep: home renovation, true crime, motoring, cooking competitions, nature documentaries and the long-running reality franchises that Discovery's channels have produced for decades, plus regional additions that differ from country to country.

What you get:

Streaming on phone and tablet, casting to a television, downloads for watching offline, multiple profiles, and continue-watching that follows you between devices. Subscription tiers vary by market, usually separating an advertising-supported plan from a dearer ad-free one, and in several countries the service arrives bundled inside a broader package rather than sold on its own.

Why the rating is low:

Complaints cluster around the player rather than the programmes. Users report playback stalling, audio drifting out of sync, downloads that expire or refuse to start, and progress that fails to carry between a phone and a living-room device. Signing in through a pay-TV provider is another recurring sore point. None of this is universal, but at 3.0 across ten million installs it is common enough that a prospective subscriber should treat a trial period as a genuine test rather than a formality.

Availability is the other constraint. Catalogue, pricing and in some regions the brand itself change with your location, and the app offers no way around that.

If the shows you want are Discovery-owned and available nowhere else, the subscription pays for itself quickly. If you are choosing between streaming services on playback quality alone, this is not the strongest on Android.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost?

Pricing is set per country and usually offers a cheaper advertising-supported plan beside an ad-free one. The app shows current rates for your region at sign-up, and in some markets the service is only sold bundled with another subscription.

Is the same catalogue available everywhere?

No. Rights are sold territory by territory, so titles present in one country can be missing in another, and the service is not offered at all in some regions.

Can I watch without an internet connection?

Selected titles download for offline playback inside the app. Those downloads are tied to an active subscription, they expire, and they cannot be moved off the device.
