Editor's Review
Utility apps rarely earn a 4.8 rating, and that number is the most interesting thing on this listing. EDF's app covers the ordinary business of an energy account: send a meter reading, see the current balance, pay a bill, adjust a direct debit, check which tariff you are on and when a fixed deal runs out. Customers with a working smart meter also get usage broken down by day and by cost, which is where the app stops being admin and starts being useful.
That strong rating suggests the basics hold up - readings that submit without argument, statements that load, payments that go through. It sounds like a low bar until you compare it against what several other suppliers ship.
The limits are structural rather than technical. This is an account tool for EDF Energy customers in the UK and does nothing for anyone else. Usage detail depends entirely on the meter, so without a smart meter you are back to typing numbers in and seeing very little in return. And when a problem needs a person, the app hands you off rather than solving it.
