Editor's Review

The pitch:

Answer a long questionnaire about your body, habits and goals, and BetterMe returns a training and eating plan sized to those answers. From there the app runs guided sessions with video demonstrations, tracks weight and steps, logs meals against a calorie target, and pushes daily reminders to keep a streak alive. Programmes range from short bodyweight routines for people starting from nothing through to yoga, walking challenges and strength blocks that assume some equipment.

Where it is strong:

Coaching content is well produced and the progression is real: sessions get harder in a sensible order rather than throwing one fixed routine at everybody. For someone who wants to be told what to do today and has no intention of designing a programme, that is worth paying for, and the 4.46 average across ten million installs reflects a large body of people who found it useful.

Where it is not:

Monetisation is aggressive and dominates the negative reviews. The questionnaire ends on a paywall, discount countdowns pressure a fast decision, and cancelling has a reputation for being harder than signing up. Anyone installing should treat the store subscription screen as the only reliable place to manage billing, and should check renewal terms before a trial ends rather than after.

The nutrition side is generic guidance generated from your answers, not personal dietetic care. That is fine for general habit-building and no substitute for medical advice if you have a condition that makes diet a clinical matter.

Questions people ask

Is BetterMe free?

The download is free and the questionnaire costs nothing, but the plans, workouts and meal guidance are sold as a subscription. Expect a paywall at the end of onboarding.

How do I cancel?

A subscription bought through the store is cancelled in your Google Play subscriptions screen rather than inside the app. Cancelling there stops the renewal and leaves a record you can point to.

Is it safe if I have a health condition?

Plans come from a questionnaire, not a medical assessment. Anyone with a heart condition, an injury, a pregnancy or a diet-sensitive illness should clear a new programme with a doctor first.
