Editor's Review
Statutory health insurance in Germany runs on paper, and most of that paper exists in order to travel from you to your insurer. NAVIDA is AOK's attempt to shorten the journey. Photograph a certificate or a receipt, submit it through the app, and the envelope, the stamp and the trip to a postbox disappear.
Past document submission, the app handles the ordinary business of membership: viewing your insurance details, correcting personal data, following the status of something already sent, using member services and writing to the insurer through a secure channel rather than waiting in a telephone queue. Digital insurance credentials living on the phone are useful at a practice reception too.
Two conditions decide whether any of this is worth your time. You need to be an AOK member, and AOK is a group of regional funds, so the functions that appear depend on which fund insures you. Registration also requires proving who you are before anything sensitive unlocks, and that verification step is where much of the frustration in the reviews sits. The interface is German throughout, as you would expect from a statutory insurer serving one country.
A 4.2 average is respectable in a genre judged less on design than on whether a submission actually went through. NAVIDA mostly clears that bar.

Questions people ask
Do I have to be an AOK member?
Yes. The app is a service channel for existing members, and the useful parts open only after your membership is confirmed during registration.
Why does registration ask me to prove my identity?
Everything behind the login touches health and insurance data, which is why access is not granted on an email address alone. The verification is a one-off, but it is the step most likely to need patience.
Is there an English version?
No. The interface, the documents and the correspondence are all in German, which is worth knowing before you rely on it for anything time-sensitive.
