Editor's Review

Two products share one app here, and that pairing is the first thing to understand about it. Air Canada's travel functions sit alongside Aeroplan, the loyalty programme, so a single login covers both tomorrow's flight and the points balance you have been building for years.

Travel side:

Search and book flights, check in from 24 hours out, keep a boarding pass in the wallet, pick or change a seat, add bags, and watch flight status with gate and delay updates pushed as notifications. Trips populate automatically once they are booked under your profile. On many aircraft the app doubles as the entertainment screen over the onboard network.

Aeroplan side:

Balance, recent accrual, status tier progress and award booking all live in the same app. Points can be applied against a fare at the time of booking, and the membership card sits in the app for partner and retail earning.

What goes wrong:

A 4.62 average across 5M+ installs is good by airline standards, but the app inherits every weakness of the systems behind it. During irregular operations, the weather day when a whole airport needs rebooking at once, this is where the load shows first, and travellers report it stalling or serving stale information exactly when it matters. Self-service rebooking is narrower than what an agent can do, so a phone queue often remains unavoidable. Award search is functional rather than generous, and the best redemption value still rewards patience.

Verdict:

Necessary if you fly the airline or hold Aeroplan points, and dependable on an ordinary travel day. Do not make it your only plan when things go sideways.
