Editor's Review
What it covers: this is CIBC's main banking client for Android, and it carries the full everyday feature set a Canadian retail customer expects. Chequing and savings balances, credit card activity, bill payments, Interac e-Transfer in both directions, transfers between your own accounts, cheque deposit by camera, and card lock if a wallet goes missing. Mortgages, lines of credit and investment accounts appear alongside deposits, which makes the summary screen a fair picture of where you stand.
Getting in: sign-in accepts fingerprint or face unlock rather than retyping a card number and password each time, and CIBC layers its own alerting on top - notifications for large debits, unusual card use, or a deposit landing. Global Money Transfer handles international sends for clients who need them.
The rough edges: a 3.9 rating on 5 million installs is respectable rather than good, and the recurring themes in feedback are familiar for bank apps: session timeouts that arrive mid-task, occasional maintenance windows that lock everything out, and a redesign cycle that moves buttons users had memorised. The app also needs a live internet connection for essentially everything, with no meaningful offline view of recent transactions.
It is not built to win anyone over on features alone. If you bank with CIBC it is the fastest route to your money, and if you do not, there is nothing here to use.

Questions people ask
Do I need to be a CIBC client to use the app?
Yes. Sign-in requires an existing CIBC card number or username. The app can be installed by anyone, but no banking function opens up without an account.
Can I use it while travelling outside Canada?
The app is built around Canadian banking and Interac services. It generally works over an internet connection abroad, but some verification steps rely on a Canadian phone number for one-time codes.
