Editor's Review

What the app is for:

Before a lender approves a card, a loan or a mortgage, it consults a credit reference agency. Experian is one of them, and this app is the consumer window onto the file it holds. It shows your Experian Credit Score, breaks down the factors moving it - payment history, how much of your available credit you are using, how long accounts have been open, recent searches - and alerts you when something on the file changes.

Beyond the score:

An eligibility section estimates your chances on specific cards and loans before you apply, which matters because a declined application leaves a mark that other lenders can see. Score history charts the direction of travel month by month, and notifications cover new accounts, new searches and movement in the number itself.

The catch:

The score really is free, but the detailed report behind it belongs to the paid subscription, and the app is persistent about the upgrade. Eligibility figures come from Experian's own modelling rather than from lenders, who regularly disagree with them. Financial products are recommended alongside your data, so part of what you are using is a shopfront. One agency's file also tells you nothing about what the other two hold, and lenders do not all consult the same one.

A 4.25 rating reads about right: useful, free at the level most people need, and pushier than a plain reporting tool would be.

Features

  • Experian Credit Score with a breakdown of each factor affecting it

  • Alerts for new accounts, searches and other changes to your credit file

  • Score history charted month by month

  • Eligibility estimates for cards and loans before you make an application

  • Full credit report access through the paid subscription tier

  • Guidance on the actions that raise or lower a score

Pros

  • Score checks cost nothing and do not affect your rating

  • Eligibility checks reduce the risk of a wasted application leaving a mark

  • Change alerts give early warning of accounts opened in your name

Cons

  • The detailed credit report sits behind a paid subscription

  • Frequent prompts to upgrade and to apply for recommended products

  • Eligibility percentages are estimates, and lenders often decide otherwise

  • Covers Experian's file only, not the data held by the other agencies

Questions people ask

Does checking my score in the app damage it?

No. Looking at your own file is a soft search. Only applications that lead a lender to run a hard search leave something other lenders can see.

How much does it cost?

The score, the change alerts and the eligibility checks are free. The full report and the deeper monitoring belong to a paid subscription that the app promotes throughout.

Why is my score different somewhere else?

Each agency holds a different file and uses a different scale. A number from one cannot be compared directly with a number from another, and lenders choose which they consult.

Do I need an account?

Yes. The app has to verify your identity against the credit file before it can show anything, so sign-up includes a set of identity questions.
